17 November 08Results from the Mud at Stafford
South Cheshire Harriers' men's team consolidated their position at the top of Division 2 of the North Staffs Cross Country League on Saturday, all but ensuring promotion in the process. In the third of the four races in the league, Gaz Carless again proved best able to negotiate a very boggy Stafford Common, completing the six-mile course in 36.41 for 13th place. With veteran Mike Hatton 23rd in 37.52, ahead of younger team-mates Liam Wilkinson (31st in 38.59) and Pete Mallison (35th in 39.20), the top four ensured the Harriers pulled away decisively from their nearest challengers in the division. And with strong support from Colin Simpson (67th in 41.41) and Pat Hudson (80th in 42.36), the signs are good that the club can more than hold their own next season in the six-man Division 1 competition.

In the women's event, Nicky Lowe was once again to the fore, matching Gaz Carless's achievement with 13th place, in a time of 22.06 over a 5k course. She was backed up by Ruth Pryce (34th in 23.50), Carol Godfrey (46th in 24.45), Liz Painter (29.44), Kedren Elliott (29.49) and Sarah Dyde (31.11).

With six women and 22 men competing, it was a record turn-out for the Harriers cross-country team. The other runners were:
  • Neil Jones - 42.50
  • Andy Mayers - 43.20
  • Pete Cooper - 44.00
  • James Simpson - 44.10
  • Charlie Rowlands - 44.18
  • Mel Cole - 44.53
  • Rob Rowlands - 45.36
  • Dave McGrath - 46.31
  • Rob Cummings - 47.11
  • Andy Painter - 48.03
  • Phil Cliff - 48.08
  • Rob Mayers - 48.30
  • Steve Whincup - 48.49
  • Mike Cutler - 49.43
  • Simon Walker - 50.00
  • Alasdair Dyde - 52.17

On Sunday, Mike Cutler raced in the Macmillan Cancer Support 5-mile race organised by Stone Master Marathoners, finishing 30th in a time of 39.39. He was joined for the Harriers by John Latham, who clocked 48.20 for 67th place.

10 November 08Mad Jack's 5 successes
Runners from South Cheshire Harriers featured prominently in the inaugural running of Mad Jack's 5, a five-mile cross country event in Attingham Park near Shrewsbury. The race, organised by Shrewsbury Athletic Club, attracted 200 runners to the grounds of the National Trust property, with the Harriers' Rich Baker coming home 10th in a time of 33.15. Nicky Lowe continued a series of excellent results, finishing third lady, and 41st overall, in 37.12. Nicky was not the only female Harrier in the prizes either, as Gemma Cutler clocked 49.42 to secure first junior lady. The contingent of seven Harriers was completed by Mike Cutler (44.15), Martin Stirna (46.33), Chantelle Swart (46.35) and John Latham (50.34).

6 November 08Championship tables updated following Flying Fox 10More Details
Only 2 races to go. Mike Hatton looks to have the Men's title in the bag but there's a real scrap for second to fourth. With the Ladies, any one of four can still win!

We've corrected the percentage calculation for runners who've completed more than 8 races - they're now right (honest!).

There are a few marathon results still missing so if yours isn't on the list, let Simon know.
